The Nutcracker Ballet

One of my favorite dances derived from the book the Nutcracker and the Mouse King is also a global classic.  This year I was asked to decorate two large window boxes in the lobby of Middle Country Library Museum.  The cases soar at 5 feet and 6 feet square and command a view as you walk in.  I chose to create images that would bring visitors back to Christmas of their childhood.   I can see myself as a small girl watching legendary dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov perform in the starring role as I dreamed of visiting the land of sweets with Maria.  It is never too early to elicit a passion for the arts in youth.  I hope these images make you smile and get you excited about the possibilities, hopes and dreams a little Christmas magic can bring.

The Nutcracker poised to fight as a soldier boy.  We see in this young boy's expression he is
questioning himself as he dresses up in the robes of war.
The Nutcracker flees the living room as Maria and Godfather Drosselmeyer look on.
Engaged in battle the Nutcracker struggles to defeat the Mouse King and free Maria.

Rushing to the aid of her beloved Nutcracker, Maria throws her slipper deciding the battle.
